FAQs

Why should I pay for a professional translator when machine translation is free?

Yes, machine translation is free, but trust me, it certainly isn’t accurate. If you choose to use machine translation, you are taking a big risk as your content won’t have a natural flow and your target audience will feel that. I am native British, and I can assure you with my help, you are far more likely to get a better result!

How much does a translation cost?

Each project is unique and tailored to each one of my clients. The price will depend on many factors such as word count, sector, delivery time frame and any additional requirements. My fees can either be per hour, per word count or per project, all depending on the type of project.

How long will a translation take?

The deadline will depend on the word count and the complexity of the project. On average I translate around 300 words per hour, but this again will vary depending on many factors.

What qualifications do you have?

  • I have a BA Hons in Modern Languages (Chinese & French) with translation and interpretation studies.
  • I have been a professional translator since 2020.
  • I am a member of various translation volunteering programs.

What languages do you speak?

I am native British & French (dual nationality) and have a degree in Chinese. I also spent a year in Shanghai where I learnt how to read, speak and write Mandarin.

Do you translate from English into French/Chinese?

I also translate into French, but not into Chinese. I only translate into English & French, my native languages, which I am sure to know the ins and outs of and will be able to give you the most accurate translation possible.

Do all of your specialisms apply to Chinese-English translations?

Chinese is a very complex language, therefore there is only a certain number of areas I will translate content from Mandarin. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me, as we can discuss your project and if I feel like it is something I cannot deliver, I can point you in the right direction to one of my fellow translators who can.

Jill Minetti

BIC Magazine

I confirm I have known Charlotte for many years as we have had a home in the Charente France for 20 years.
She has done translation work for me for both personal and my business dealings (property and financial) and we would wholeheartedly recommend her for French to English or vice versa work with her linguistic expertise and competence in this field.

Phil Roberts

I would recommend Charlotte 200%, because she has translated many French documents for me into English perfectly. The advantages of working with Charlotte are: She is bilingual: born British and studied in France, she has a very good command of the spoken and written words in both French and English.  She knows all the English and French expressions which allows her to have translate documents exceptionally. Charlotte is very professional, patient and thorough in her work. Charlotte respects deadlines. She is very reactive, especially if we have questions for her. Her work is presented perfectly when she has finished. She is very dynamic, and you can see it through her translations as she uses rich vocabulary both in English and French. I will need her services again for CV translations and to also translate scripts for several films. You can trust her!

Célina Sackey

It was a pleasure working with Charlotte, who was punctual, responsive, and available throughout our collaboration. She translated over 60,000 words (FR → EN) for our culinary projects with Groupe SEB, focusing on product recipes. Her rigorous approach and attention to detail were particularly appreciated for ensuring accuracy and clarity.
